The fourth editions of two major international exhibitions addressing Libya’s infrastructure and oil and gas sectors, Infrastructure Libya 2012 and Oil & Gas Libya 2012, attracted 4,687 registered attendees during the four days of the event which ran from 23 to 26 April 2012 at the Tripoli International Fairground.

The event was officially opened by Libya’s Minister of Oil, Abdul-Rahman Ben Yazza, who gave an inaugural address followed by a tour of the exhibition.

Visitors included government and private sector planners, specifiers and procurement officials, engineers of all disciplines, specialist contractors, consultants and trading agents, all providing the essential contacts necessary for the exhibiting companies to secure a part in Libya’s economic development programme.

197 exhibitors from 23 countries participated in the event including four national pavilions from Egypt, France, Netherlands and Turkey, as well as individual companies from Algeria, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Oman, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Sudan, Switzerland, UAE, USA and UK.

Infrastructure Libya 2012 and Oil & Gas Libya 2012 was the first specialised international event to take place after the recent conflict where international companies had the opportunity demonstrate their commitment to the market and to further their trading links with Libya’s public and private sector business communities.

Infrastructure Libya 2012 provided a unique showcase targeted at organisations and companies involved in Libya’s infrastructure planning and project implementation.

Displays included equipment, materials, products, technology, consultancy services and management expertise across prime sectors important to Libya’s modernisation programme and economic progress, including building & construction, public works & municipal engineering, power & electricity, transport & communications, water & environment and safety & security.

Oil & Gas Libya 2012 provided a major showcase for petroleum industry expertise reflecting the importance of this vital sector to Libya’s economy by bringing international expertise together from the world’s leading oil technology companies involved in exploration, production, pipelines, refining & petrochemical, HSE and training. They demonstrated support and solutions to assist with the expansion and upgrading of both the upstream and downstream sectors of the country’s petroleum sector – Libya’s most important economic activity.

Central to the exhibition was a National Oil Corporation (NOC) stand promoting their activities to both exhibitors and visitors. They were complemented by exhibit presentations from a number of international oil companies including Repsol, Total and Wintershall.

The oil and gas exhibition was supported by a high level conference with the theme ‘The Way Ahead for Libya’s Oil and Gas Sector’ which drew on the expertise of major industry speakers including Libyan Minister of Oil Abdul-Rahman Ben Yazza, Libyan Minister of Economy Ahmed Al-Koshly, NOC Chairman Dr Nuri A Berruien, US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic & Business Affairs Jose Fernandez and Prof Bassam Fattough Director of Oil and the Middle East at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.

The conference attracted 106 registered delegates drawn from the NOC, Libyan and international oil companies, as well as service providers. Session attendees included managers, engineers and geoscientists from the full spectrum of Libya’s upstream and downstream sectors.

Joining the international exhibitors at Infrastructure Libya 2012 and Oil & Gas Libya 2012 was a host of Libyan companies including manufacturers, service organisations and trading agencies, all of which act as a conduit to the market and play a vital role in the country’s economic development.

Many exhibitors reported that they had achieved their aims and that their participation objectives had been met. The objectives were varied and included market research, locating or supporting an agent, maintaining a market position and direct selling.

The exhibitions provided a unique and effective platform for international companies seeking to develop a relationship with those involved in implementing Libya’s far reaching development plans.

Director of the Turkish Pavilion of 13 exhibitors, Mert Gul, said: “All of our exhibitors had a successful participation. It was an excellent exhibition and very well organised. We look forward to bringing a bigger participation in 2013.”

Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion Pavilion Director Akie Plomp brought Holland Pavilions to both Infrastructure 2012 and Oil & Gas 2012. She said: “All 14 exhibitors were satisfied with their participation in the exhibitions. Although major tenders and projects are on hold pending the outcome of the coming elections, much interest was shown in Dutch products and services and many contacts were made which will certainly result in contracts in the near future.”

Many exhibitors are now making their plans to book space in the next show in order to cement their position in the market. Dates for Infrastructure Libya 2013 and Oil & Gas Libya 2013, the fifth event in the series, have been set for 22-25 April 2013.

Following their recently announced plans to re-enter the Libyan market, trade show organisers Dar Alarab in association with Montgomery Libya Ltd have now been granted licences by the
Libya General Board of Fairs, under the authority of the Libyan National Transitional Council (LNTC), for their two international trade shows and conferences – Infrastructure Libya 2012
and Oil & Gas Libya 2012 – to take place 23-26 April 2012.

Dar Alarab /Montgomery are already in discussion with the appropriate Ministries of the Libyan National Transitional Council (LNTC) seeking their support and patronage for these
two events and others in their planned pipeline.

The two shows:

Infrastructure Libya 2012 www.infrastructurelibya.com — the International Exhibition and
Conference for Libya’s Rebuilding Programme

Oil & Gas Libya 2012 www.oilandgaslibya.com – the International Exhibition and
Conference for the Regeneration of Libya’s Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals Sector

are set to take place concurrently at Tripoli’s international fairground and follow the exhibition programme which has addressed Libya’s infrastructure and oil and gas sectors each year since
2006.

Conferences are planned to run in parallel with the exhibitions and will offer the LNTC the opportunity of laying out its investment and management plans for the country’s reconstruction and future development as well as bringing professionals from around the world to share their views and experience on infrastructure and energy sector matters.

The aim of the trade exhibitions is to bring to the market much needed expertise and technology across a broad range of sectors from the international export community, to meet
the LNTC’s immediate priorities in rebuilding Libya’s infrastructure and energy sectors which have been neglected in recent years and which further suffered during the conflict.

power & electricity, transport & communications, water & environment, safety & security; and in the energy sector: exploration, production, pipelines, refining and petrochemicals, HSE, and

Exhibitors will be international producers and suppliers of equipment, materials, products, technology, consultancy services, management capability and financial expertise appropriate
for Libya’s reconstruction and future development plans. They will be drawn from Europe, North America, the MENA region and Asia through a comprehensive exhibitor promotion
programme aimed at foreign governments, government export agencies, trade associations and industry. Libyan companies, both manufacturers and import agencies, will also be encouraged
to exhibit.
